The Accessibility with Moxie Foundation a not-for-profit charitable corporation dedicated to helping organizations integrate persons with disabilities. We help build networks of people who can lead the change process. And we do it with moxie
History of AMF
- When people get together to whine about how life is so hard on them because they have acquired a disability, it can get frustrating. If on the other hand, these people meet, laugh, and discover they have a mountain of talent and experience, you get a room full of MOXIE!!!
- The AMF was founded in 2006 by a group of people dedicated to advancing the independence of people with disabilities. The foundation recognises that everyone could use fresh ideas based on a wealth of knowledge and first hand experience with disability issues. They can count on Moxie.
What is amf?
People with a wealth of business experience combined with first hand experience with a disabling condition. A full understanding of the economic and social windfall from breaking down the barriers.
The Climate -
- Ontario is going through a transformation over the next 2 decades to make the province universally accessible for its citizens and visitors alike, and will achieve this by the year 2025.
- The Ontarians with Disabilities Act, (ODA), was established in 2001 and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, (AODA), was established in 2005.
- The federal government is also in the process of creating strong legislation to remove all barriers for people with disabilities.
The Solution -
- This dynamic group decided to do something about it - start a not-for-profit organization - a foundation - that will help push the accessibility file forward. We, The Accessibility with Moxie Foundation will help you, the public and private sector, achieve this.
AMF and the AODA
- Key AMF members have been involved with the AODA and the ODA since before their enactment.
- The Ministry of Community and Social Development of Ontario has partnered with AMF to deliver an Accessible Customer Service Seminar to small and mid-sized businesses and the hospitality industry in Eastern Ontario.
- As new Standards are released from the Ontario Government, AMF will be there to promote and educate.
Why do we need the AMF?
- A key strategy used to develop the ODA and AODA was one of active participation and consultation with people who are experienced with disabiling conditions. Throughout the whole process these people provided valuable insight and first hand experience. Many opportunities were provided for advising the Minister, the government, staff and other stakeholder groups.
- For those who have the luxury of an established advisory committee dedicated to their organization, great results are now the norm. For those who don't, AMF can fill the need.
- AMF is dedicated to promoting an accessible Ontario, and an accessible Canada
Who Benefits?
- AMF is relied upon for speaking engagements, panel discussions, and advisory committee work.
- Government at all levels benefit from the AMF's ability to assign knowledgeable people speading the message about an Accessible Ontario. We are able to network with many Moxie Minded people who are connected to their communities, have business credentials, have first hand experience with a disability, and above all else, have plenty of MOXIE!!
