The Accessibility with Moxie Foundation was created in 2006 by a group of individuals dedicated to advancing opportunities for persons with disabilities

 

THE MEMBERS

We are a group of achievers who are experienced, articulate, knowledgeable and have a great sense of humour! We come from different backgrounds - finance, business administration, private sector, small business, public sector, the creative industry and communications.

 

THE OPERATIONS PEOPLE

 

Managing Director

Andy Katz photo Andrew Katz, Managing Director and co-founder of the Accessibility with Moxie Foundation is also a Financial Advisor. He has served on several public sector accessibility advisory committees and is active in the cancer and multiple sclerosis communities. Andrew's career has centered around sales, marketing and training. Originally from Montreal, he graduated from the Universty of Ottawa in 1984 with a B.A. and a business certificate. He played football for the Gee Gees from 1979-1981, loves coffee, and is often heard asking "What's going on?"

Operations Manager

Yassemine Cohanim photo Yassemin Cohanim graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1981 with an undergraduate degree in Psychology. She has worked as a Speech Language Fascilitator with children with Autism, Behavioural Consultant, Research Assistant and Interim College teacher. She is a member of the Social Action Committee, Ottawa Chapter, MS Society and the Ontario Social Action Committee, MS Society. She sits on the Accessibility Advisory Committee, City of Ottawa.

Since 1986 after graduating with an MA from the University of Texas, June Steube worked as an illustrator for a variety of clients including Tri Star Motion Pictures, The Mercantile Bank, Canada Post, and The Royal Ontario Museum. She has produced communication graphics for Accessibility with Moxie Foundation, The Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Steven Lewis Foundation (Grassroots Grannies), Greenpeace and The Coalition for Immigrant Women. Her work has won numerous awards and June was an exhibitor for "Art in the Service of Science" at the Smithsonian, Washington D.C. Other experience includes teaching at the University of Toronto Department of Art as Applied to Medicine and a brief but unremarkable stint playing underwater hockey. She lives in Ottawa with her husband Jim, son Eric and Scamp The Dog.

Francoise Parent Photo Françoise Parent has spent her career as a leader in communications and association management. She has managed communications teams for prominent organizations such as Heritage Canada Foundation, Association of Canadian Distillers, Canadian Real Estate Association and many years with the Canadian Medical Protective Association. Her small business experience as co-owner of McMahon Productions gives her valuable insight into the challenges faced in the day to day success of small enterprises. Fluently bilingual, she has been the source of scripts and copy for all Moxie projects.

Barry McMahon Photo Barry McMahon has worked diligently over four decades to help others understand the benefits of eliminating physical, social and attitudinal barriers for all those with disabilities. After many years working advertising and commercial art production studios, he and his wife Francoise established one of Ottawa’s busiest and successful independent audiovisual production studios. Over 300 productions and many years later, they closed the business and he went on to work for the Government of Canada as an Executive Producer of Film and Video. In 1997, he retired due to ongoing effects of post-polio syndrome, he focused his energy on voluntary work, advocating for full integration of the older adults and people with disabilities. He has taken a leadership role with the City of Ottawa’s Accessibility Advisory Committee; advising the Province of Ontario with the enactment of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act ODA 2001 and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act AODA 2005; and several agencies of the federal government. As a founding member of Accessibility with Moxie Foundation, he continues to push for universal access for all.
